A Day in my life as a Veterinary Physiotherapist

Hi, I’m Paige, a South Yorkshire–based veterinary physiotherapist, and I’m lucky enough to spend my days helping animals feel their best. No two days are ever quite the same in this job, which is one of the many reasons I absolutely love what I do!

My day usually starts with a strong cup of coffee and a quick look through my schedule. I might be visiting a dog recovering from surgery, helping a horse with muscle soreness, or supporting an older pet who’s slowing down with arthritis. Every animal has their own story, and every treatment plan is carefully tailored to their needs.

One of the most rewarding parts of being a veterinary physio is seeing the difference physiotherapy can make. Many of the animals I work with are recovering from injuries or operations, while others simply need support managing long-term conditions. Through a combination of hands-on techniques, therapeutic exercises, and tailored rehabilitation plans, I help improve mobility, reduce pain, and support overall wellbeing.

A typical session might involve gentle massage, stretching, laser therapy, or guided exercises designed to strengthen specific muscle groups. Of course, plenty of treats, tail wags, and the occasional slobbery kiss are often included too! Building trust with the animals is really important, and I always work at their pace to make sure they feel safe and comfortable.

I also spend time chatting with owners about what we’re working on and how they can continue helping their pet at home. Simple things like adjusting exercise routines, using the right warm-ups, or introducing strengthening exercises can make a huge difference in recovery and long-term health.

One of my favourite moments is seeing progress over time. A dog who was struggling to walk comfortably suddenly bounding around again, or a horse moving more freely after treatment — those moments make all the hard work worthwhile.

Being a veterinary physiotherapist isn’t just a job for me; it’s something I’m incredibly passionate about. Helping animals live happier, more comfortable lives is what motivates me every single day.

If you think your pet might benefit from physiotherapy, I’d love to hear from you. Whether your furry friend is recovering from an injury, managing a condition, or simply needs a little extra support, I’m always happy to chat.

Drop me a message and we can talk about how I can help your furry friend get back to feeling their best!
